Press Report - 31st July 2006 BOREHAMWOOD HOT SHOTSAway to North Mymms last Tuesday in a friendly on 4 rinks, Borehamwood achieved a very rare feat - a "hot shot". All the more amazingly, two of the four bowlers on that rink are new to the game this season, and were completely unaware of the significance of what they had achieved, a hot shot meaning that all of their 8 woods on a particular end were closer to the jack than any one of their opponents' woods. As is required, the scorecard has been sent to the E.B.A. (English Bowling Association) and Dickie Daniels, Eric Swain, Barry Coles and Skip (and Club President) Sid Butcher will receive their certificates and badges in due course, in the knowledge that only a very small percentage of bowlers ever achieve this. They won their rink 32-14, but Borehamwood lost the match 72-76, the other three rinks all going down.On Wednesday, Borehamwood travelled to North Watford for a League Match, and after a very exciting finish, Borehamwood snatched a draw, 50-50. The one winning rink for Borehamwood was Andy Bennett, Eric Swain and Dave Middleditch skipped by Don Putman who won well by 21-11.Over the weekend, in a friendly against Watford & District, Borehamwood crashed heavily by 64 shots to 96. their one winning rink, and then only by a single shot was Arthur Muir, George Gable and Bill Maunder skipped by Dave Winter, scraping home 21-20 after a wonderful 3 on the last end.Another defeat followed against Harperbury, with Borehamwood going down 80-96, their only winning rink being Adrian Pardini, Peggy Pollintine and Dave Middleditch skipped by Joan Tester who came out on top 19-16. |
