We
are an outdoor flat green bowls club located in Borehamwood town
centre, Hertfordshire.
(see ‘Location’ page)
The
Club is run by members for "The Benefit of Members".
We have 45 men & 32 women members, in addition there
are 4 men and 3 women life members (2 being founder
members) - making a total of 84
members.
We play both competitive and friendly matches
throughout the outdoor season from May to September. We
take part in various League and Cup competitions as
well as internal competitions and fun drives. We also
have indoor fixtures from October through to April. During
the Closed Season, the club arranges Whist drives (weekly) and various
social evenings.
The
clubhouse has excellent facilities (which includes a licensed bar with very
reasonable prices). The Club is maintained on a
completely voluntary basis - Club members offer to participate in
cleaning rotas, tea rotas, etc.
Our Greens Committee (also
a group of volunteer Club members) look after our green, which
involves cutting the
green 3 times a week during the playing season and also managing the
garden, hedge, and surrounding areas. Our Green is considered one of
the best in Hertfordshire.
However, bowling does not always have to be competitive – every
Friday afternoon all bowlers who turn up can
participate in a friendly “roll-up”. In addition we have a
"Monday League", an informal in-house competition of teams of 4
players - a good chance to meet every one.
Last
year was our 50th Anniversary during which additional
special events and matches took place.
We
welcome members of any age, whether you are new to bowls or are an experienced
bowler looking to join a new club. You are equally
welcome to come and give us a try, as we will lend
equipment - all we ask is you bring flat soled footwear
(carpet slippers will do).
We have many members willing to help new bowlers find
their feet on the green and a qualified coach to assist
more experienced players to improve their skills and
knowledge of the sport, so don’t be shy in asking for
advice or assistance.
